Working in the television industry for 10 years and growing up in it for 20 years before that, this path was inevitable. An AFTRS alum with two Graduate Certificates under her belt, Jess is the definition of a movie buff and after torturing her friends with her opinions for years, they're now out there for public consumption. By day, Jess is an employee at Channel 9 travelling the country and the globe working on the Today Show, News, NRL, The Footy Show and the 2012 London Olympics, among others, but by night she's either hauled up inside a cinema (her home away from home) or rubbing shoulders with movie stars and movie makers on red carpets.

BEST CONCERT: Peter Gabriel in Verona, Italy - 2010
FIRST MEMORY OF A FILM: When I was 5 I was with my family sitting front row at a screening of Dirty Dancing facing the audience. I turned around once the movie started and suddenly felt overwhelmed with the desire to be up there on that screen.

Singled [Out] - Sex and four cities
SINGLED [OUT]Sex and four cities
It's is not an in-depth study or observation, it is merely a glimpse. It’s still a nice jumping off point for it viewers to use to then go and delve into this new phenomenon of the single lady.

NOTTING HILL'S 20TH ANNIVERSARYThe essential romantic Richard Curtis
It’s hard to believe we’ve been quoting “I’m also just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her” for 20 years. Jess looks at the man who penned that infamous line, Richard Curtis.
The Crow - What could have been 25 years after the film's release
THE CROWWhat could have been 25 years after the film's release
25 years ago, a film came out staring a virtual unknown. On paper, this film should never have been made. Yet here we are, a quarter of a century later, talking about it. Admiring it.
The Aftermath - A shallow waste of time
THE AFTERMATHA shallow waste of time
‘The Aftermath’ plays like a romance, only it’s not a romance. It plays like a sympathetic, tragedy post-WWII film, only there’s too much contrived romance for that to ring true. What a mess.
The Kindergarten Teacher - It's beautiful enough for me
THE KINDERGARTEN TEACHERIt's beautiful enough for me
Maggie Gyllenhaal makes this film. She has an unparalleled gift to convey the subtlest of emotions that you empathise with her to an extraordinary degree.

Felicity Jones and Armie Hammer share great chemistry and do great justice to their real-life counterparts, and you can shed a tear over and be grateful for the path forged by those before us.
The Kid Who Would Be King - A fresh look at an old tale
THE KID WHO WOULD BE KINGA fresh look at an old tale
The film isn’t as funny or as scary as you’d like it to be, but its biggest and most important strength is its message, and it couldn’t be more timely.
Glass - It's clear as... mud
GLASSIt's clear as... mud
After a series of failures for the once-sought after M. Night Shymalan, he came back with a vengeance with ‘Split’ only to, as it turns out, squander his “time in the light” once again.
Green Book - An unexpected gem for 'Dumb & Dumber' director
GREEN BOOKAn unexpected gem for 'Dumb & Dumber' director
Director Peter Farrelly has created a multi-layered, textured piece, and Mahershala Ali and Viggo Mortensen do remarkable jobs. You'll be hearing a lot about this film in the lead-up to the Oscars.
Ralph Breaks The Internet - He said he was gonna wreck it, and he did
RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNETHe said he was gonna wreck it, and he did
There are some laughs and the animation is just as great as the first film, but no new ground is covered and it comes off as painfully average... and about 20 minutes too long.
The Front Runner - A tone-deaf look at what could have been
THE FRONT RUNNERA tone-deaf look at what could have been
Five years ago, ‘The Front Runner’ could have been a standout, but today it just comes off as tone deaf. Well made, but tone deaf.
Peppermint - We and Jennifer Garner deserve better
PEPPERMINTWe and Jennifer Garner deserve better
There are simply too many potential actions set pieces here that are underplayed or glossed over. We expected more here.
Colette - The myth, The legend, The Claudine
COLETTEThe myth, The legend, The Claudine
While a wonderful and gloriously rich film which also serves as hauntingly modern in subject, feminist and queer themes, this extraordinary woman's story has been told rather tamely.
Instant Family - You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll want to adopt kids!
INSTANT FAMILYYou'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll want to adopt kids!
The film ebbs and flows with beautiful timing between hilarious moments and those that are either gut-wrenchingly emotional or that much needed pull on the heart-strings.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald - A fantastic failure for the Potterverse
FANTASTIC BEASTS: THE CRIMES OF GRINDELWALDA fantastic failure for the Potterverse
J.K. Rowling did a really terrible job with this screenplay. The whole thing is lazy, contrived, and has way too much exposition.

Ladies In Black - It doesn't have the
LADIES IN BLACKIt doesn't have the "Goodes"
‘Ladies in Black’ left me feeling bored and borderline appalled that this film will be seen as a representation of not only ourselves but our country as artists and filmmakers.
You Were Never Really Here - Brutal yet beautiful
YOU WERE NEVER REALLY HEREBrutal yet beautiful
The shots are long, the sets are dark, the dialogue is sparse, and the action is brutal. Joaquin Phoenix embodies Joe, from his excessive physical damage to his uncompromising heart.
The Happytime Murders - Filthy felt
The talent was there, the trailer proved that it was funny, it was also a genuine detective story - so why does it fail?
Book Club - A waste of great talent
BOOK CLUBA waste of great talent
First-time director Bill Holderman has proven he has a lot to learn about women... and comedy... and storytelling. These are four of the most iconic women in cinema, and they deserved so much better.
SuperFly - Super nah
There is nothing standout about the film. The screenplay is terrible, the cast may have some talent but it’s hard to see through the mess, and everything else you’re just too busy cringing at.
The Spy Who Dumped Me - Girl power fizzles
THE SPY WHO DUMPED MEGirl power fizzles
It’s neither the raucous comedy nor the smart savvy spy you want, but McKinnon is gold and the film’s saving grace.

Skyscraper - It crashes and burns
SKYSCRAPERIt crashes and burns
Johnson does his stock-standard performance as an affable brick wall who tries to downplay his physical size and fails. Void of quality, fun and originality, there’s not much going for ‘Skyscraper’.

HARD PAINTA colourful addition to cinema's queer comeback
It captures the isolation and loneness with its dark, ominous and vast yet isolated shots, and is magnified by newcomer Shico Menegat’s quiet, fresh and beautiful performance.
Tag - Game on!
TAGGame on!
It’s fun and energetic with a terrific concept, and most of the cast looking like they're having so much fun onscreen - but Isla Fisher consistently steals the spotlight and the laughs.
The Ice King - So much more than a champion figure skater
THE ICE KINGSo much more than a champion figure skater
A great starting off point to learn more about John Curry, but it’s sadly not the be-all and end-all biography of this tragic yet beautiful life.
