EUROVISION 2015

SEMI-FINAL 2

GIG REVIEW
By Brent Davidson
23rd May 2015

Here we go! Time for the second Semi-final of the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest! If you thought the first semi delivered on all of your Eurovision dreams, it’s only just begun! Please refer to the video for what has been now some of the most exciting rounds of ten seconds of my life.

On the ground there was no doubt as to who won the night. He had everything going for him - pyrotechnics, dance moves, killer shoes, and what I would say is one of the most upbeat songs of the contest.

NADAV GUEDJ - GOLDEN BOY
Yes, Isreal’s 16-year-old entry Nadav Guedj is definitely this year's golden boy. The audience was most animated during his performance and there was a moment where it looked like he might not have made the final. Thank goodness he did, and will definitely continue to make the Final the world's biggest party.

AMINATA - LOVE INJECTED
It happened. As I predicted, the Latvian shined through, in her stunning dress and powerful vocal performance. She even made use of two things that are the key to Eurovision success: hand choreography and a wind machine! She’s injected me with a love for her song and her in general; the body-permeating base also doesn’t hurt that either. The song might be a little to left of Eurovision centre (if there is such a thing) to win, but I am still loving every second.

SWITCH: EUROVISION 2015 SEMI-FINAL 2 COUNTDOWN

Lets talk about Sweden. As you might remember, in my initial Top 5 article I had predicted Sweden’s Måns Zelmerlöw to take out this year's trophy for his song ‘Heroes.’ His performance in the second Semi-final, while wonderful, for me fell a little short. I guess as they say “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it,” but to do an almost Identical performance as he did in Sweden’s Melodifestivalen, for me didn’t stack up. The crowd was definitely still into it, and let's be honest, so was I. But on thinking about it I realised that I wanted more from him, maybe just to change it up a little.

MÅNS ZEIMERLÖW - HEROES

The final is (for me) mere hours away. With the excitement and tension in Vienna palpable, it's going to be one of the biggest nights of the year. Finally we get to stand up and perform in the competition. For what it’s worth as well, I will probably be a blubbery emotional mess the first time we hear the words “Twelve points... Australia!” - and if the welcome I have felt this week as an Australian at Eurovision is anything to go by, it’s something we will definitely hear a lot!
