Sneaky Sound System have been a mainstay of the Australian music industry for over a decade – and with another album full of hits, I chatted to Miss Connie about their upcoming ‘From Here To Anywhere’ Tour.

Since the release of their self-titled album in 2006, Sneaky has had plenty of accolades – ARIA awards, number one albums, and countless music festival performances – and yet the success of their work still comes as an unexpected revelation. “That’s the beauty of making music, they’re such lovely surprises when things like that happen,” Miss Connie explained about their achievements. “Some people are very analytical about the kind of music they want to make, but for us we’ve never been like that. It’s really personal and we just make music that we like, so when that happens, it’s a joyous thing.”

It’s not just Australia that’s taken so warmly to the now-duo of Sneaky Sound System – Miss Connie and Black Angus have toured around the world and played at Glastonbury, Ireland’s Oxygen, Big Day Out and Splendour in the Grass. “They’ve been just as welcoming as they have been here at home,” Miss Connie acknowledged – but was very quick to compare the Australian and global experiences. “We’re so lucky over here, we are so easy going, we’re good-natured people – you can walk down the street and meet ten new friends tonight.”

Sneaky’s latest tour, set to kick off over the Easter long weekend, will be Australia’s last opportunity to grab a glimpse of the muso’s before they head overseas for a few months, but Miss Connie promises it’s set to be a show to remember. “We just wanted to give something back to the people and make it a really amazing show. A spectacle. Really clean, really simple, but with lots of good tricks for the audience to enjoy. Me, Angus and some dancers – and some pyro!”

This new tour, and their upcoming overseas trip, is sure to reap the creative benefits – since their latest album was written while on their previous tour. “We wrote it in some of the most fabulous places on earth, like the Amalfi Coast, the Greek Islands, griming it up in London, we were in Ibiza, so we thought it made sense to call the album ‘From Here To Anywhere’.”

And while the performing and writing seem to go hand in hand, does she have a favourite of the two? “There’s nothing more rewarding than performing something that you feel proud of, you know?”
