After 'Pokémon', 'Dragon Ball' is easily one of biggest anime franchises of all time. Starting in 1984 as a manga, the series made its leap to TV in 1986, with five different series airing since the first 'Dragon Ball'. Animated films were released between 1986 and 1996, and then after a failed American live-action film, 'Dragonball: Evolution', the franchise took a break. 2013 saw the series return to the big screen with the animated film 'Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods' bring a whole new life to franchise, followed by 'Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F'' in 2015, and then in 2018 'Dragon Ball Super: Broly', the first the film to use the 'Super' branding. It became the first 'Dragon Ball' venture to gross over US$100 million worldwide. The film was a huge landmark for the franchise - and whatever was to follow had a huge act to follow.

'DRAGON BALL SUPER: SUPER HERO' TRAILER

'Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero' sees Piccolo attempting to stop the newly reformed Red Ribbon Army. They were once defeated, but when Commander Magenta and Staff Officer Carmine recruit Dr. Hedo to reform the group by creating new androids, Gamma 1 and 2, the threat is back and bigger than ever. With Goku and Vegeta off training foe-turned-ally Broly, Picoolo must get his old student Gohan out of his studies and back to the fight - but that is harder than planned.

Unlike 'Broly', 'Super Hero' is harder to jump into without prior 'Dragon Ball' knowledge, but if you are a die-hard fan this is a blast from start to finish. A lot of old lore comes into play, and while the film does its best to catch up those less equipped, like myself, this is best suited for hardcore fans.

'Super Hero' is harder to jump into without prior 'Dragon Ball' knowledge, but if you are a die-hard fan this is a blast from start to finish.

The film has Piccolo take the main stage, which makes it stand out alongside the other animated films. He is such a fun lead, and it was great for someone like myself who has seen very little 'Dragon Ball' to get to know Piccolo more.

The film also marks the first film to mainly be produced using 3D animation, and it really adds to the scope of the film. While the fights are so big and grand, it does take a while to warm up to, especially for the characters - but when it clicks, it soars.

'Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero' is a true 'Dragon Ball' entry that fans will eat up, filled with tonnes of fan service and callbacks. For those lesser in the know, it takes a while to get on board with - but once you're caught up, it goes over 9,000!
