You know when you're watching a movie and everything is just perfectly competent, there is nothing technically wrong with the film, but it's just boring? 'Then Came You' fits right into this category.

Not to be confused with the 2018 Asa Butterfield and Maisie Williams film of the same name, 'Then Came You' follows Annabelle (Kathie Lee Gifford), who after the death of her husband is planning to take his ashes around the world to visit places they loved from their favourite films. When she arrives at the first destination in Scotland, her plans change when she meets Howard (Craig Ferguson, 'How to Train Your Dragon', 'Brave'), who runs the Inn she is staying at. But could his engagement to Clare (Elizabeth Hurley) come in the way of their second chance of love? No... literally not at all.

'THEN CAME YOU' TRAILER

This movie is so many things - you have the second chance of love angle, the older couple in love angle, the widow grieving angle, and then the tagline of the movie "She's taken with him, he's taken", which plays in not at all. Hurley is in one scene, if that, and it really has no weight on anything. The movie also has the tried and tested trope of American goes to European country and just doesn't understand anything - how zany - but its Scotland, they speak English, it's not that wild or exotic a destination.

You know when you're watching a movie and everything is just perfectly competent, there is nothing technically wrong with the film, but it's just boring? 'Then Came You' fits right into this category.

We also get the they-hate-each-other-so-that-means-they-love-each-other chestnut - again, sure, why not, go wild, fit in as many clichés as you want.

They also randomly sing a lot in this movie for no reason, and every time it happens, all I could think about was Kristen Wiig on 'Saturday Night Live' going "Don't make me sing" (I know Gifford is a singer, and it just felt like that was the only reason it was in here).

You know what you're in for when you hear the plot: it's Hallmark or Netflix bland romantic cheese. You have absolutely no reason to watch it other than to boost your 2020 watch numbers - you'll forget about it while you're watching it.
