In 'The Bill: The Complete Series 5', personal and professional crises plague Sergeant Bob Cryer (Eric Richard) as his son appears in court. DI Frank Burnside (Christopher Ellison) launches a successful salvo against armed robbers and crack dealers across the manor, so the last thing he needs is Chief Superintendent Brownlow (Peter Ellis) messing up a raid. Meanwhile, PC "Yorkie" Smith (Robert Hudson) decides that prior to leaving Sun Hill, there are a few old scores to settle before handing over to his successor, PC Reg Hollis (Jeff Stewart).
Rivalry between Sun Hill and Barton Street comes to a head as The Bill enters the 1990s in explosive fashion. Inspector Christine Fraser (Barbara Thorn), jaded by politics and misogyny, hands over to Inspector Andrew Monroe (Colin Tarrant), who immediately puts the relief's backs up. DC Jim Carver (Mark Wingett) sails dangerously close to the wind when he is hauled in on a drink-driving charge. Newcomer PC Dave Quinnan (Andrew Paul) comes to blows with PC Richard Turnham (Chris Humphreys) over a dented panda; and an affair between the ranks blows wide open, leading to a CID shake-up and the end to a promising career.
