Having children, especially in 2025, has to be one of the most stressful things you can do. This universal experience can often feel very isolating, and when it comes to depicting motherhood on film in particular, it has been shown in many different ways. Whether the more comedic route like 'Bad Moms', dramas like 'Tully' or sci-fi flicks like 'Everything Everywhere All at Once', motherhood has been displayed in many different ways. 'If I Had Legs I'd Kick You' takes a look at motherhood through a physiological lens.

The film follows Linda (Rose Byrne, 'Ezra', 'Seriously Red'), a mother on the verge of a breakdown. Her husband (Christian Slater, 'Nymphomaniac', 'Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves') is away for eight weeks working, leaving her on her own to raise their daughter, who requires a lot of medical attention. When the roof in their appartement caves in creating a massive hole, Linda and her daughter temporarily move into a motel. Now she is balancing her daughter's health, who must reach a weight goal to continue attending a specialty school, and the repairs to her home, all while trying to maintain her job as a therapist. At her job, her patient, Caroline (Danielle Macdonald, Netflix's 'Dumplin'', 'Patti Cake$'), develops a parasocial relationship with Linda and ends up abandoning her newborn baby. Linda seeks refuge in a fellow therapist (Conan O'Brien, 'The LEGO Batman Movie', 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty'), but he offers little help. During her time at the motel, Linda ends up forming a friendship with James (A$AP Rocky, 'Dope', 'Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping').

SWITCH: 'IF I HAD LEGS I'D KILL YOU' TRAILER

'If I Had Legs I'd Kick You' is a non-stop stressful ride. From the jump, it puts you right into Linda's world, and for the next 113 minutes, you are with her feeling everything she is going through. We never see her daughter's face, even further adding to us experiencing her anxiety. Rose Byrne is an absolute knockout here - the film is hers entirely, with her giving a career-defining performance. 'If I Had Legs I'd Kick You' feels like a 4DX experience; it's so claustrophobic and immersive that you feel like you too are a mother experiencing all those emotions.

'If I Had Legs I'd Kick You' is a non-stop stressful ride. From the jump, it puts you right into Linda's world, and for the next 113 minutes, you are with her feeling everything she is going through.

Led by Rose Byrne, 'If I Had Legs I'd Kick You' is one of the year's best films, with Byrne the current frontrunner for Best Actress. It is so perfectly crafted that every emotion feels like your own, and so authentically depicts the horrors and joys of being a mother.
