DR KNOCK (2018)

Starring Omar Sy, Ana Girardot, Alex Lutz, Hélène Vincent, Chantal Lauby, Pascal Elbé, Christian Hecq, Audrey Dana, Sabine Azéma and Michel Vuillermoz. Directed by Lorraine Lévy.

Set in country 1950s France, Dr Knock is a former conman-turned-GP who arrives in the sleepy village of St-Maurice with a plan to make himself rich: persuade healthy people they are ill and simply don’t realise it.

Knock’s strategy is coming together just as planned, until he falls for the beautiful Adèle. The suspicions of the local priest are raised, and the darker elements of his past inevitably catch up with him and his idyllic new life.

THE MIDWIFE (2017)

Starring Catherine Frot, Catherine Deneuve, Olivier Gourmet, Quentin Dolmaire, Mylène Demongeot, Marie Paquim, Karidja Touré, Pauline Étienne, Audrey Dana and Pauline Parigot. Directed by Martin Provost.

Gifted midwife Claire has led a quiet, focused life, dedicated to her profession and to the raising of her son as a single mother. But change is in the air; the local community maternity ward where she has worked for decades is to be closed, and though she has a job offer from a larger corporate clinic, struggles to reconcile their more efficiency-driven methods with her own.

In the midst of this upheaval, she receives a call from Béatrice, the extravagant mistress of her deceased father, who wants to meet again, thirty years after having disappeared without a trace. Béatrice is a true free-spirit – loud, vivacious, and seemingly without guilt. Claire agrees to meet, but is decidedly less than enthusiastic about delving into the secrets of the past, let alone prepared to respond to a plea for help...
