Things start off strong with the first offering from the album, 'Run With The Wind' - a track full of intensity, with a driving pulse and soaring synths - and finish similarly with the energetic, summer-filled 'The Weekend'.
However, things seem to get a little murkier in the middle, with tracks either hitting the mark or missing completely. While songs like the introspective 'The Leopard', the falcetto chorus of 'Real Love' and harmony-laden 'Born At The Right Time' (the brand new video clip can be found below) keep things moving forward, the pseudo-disco 'Love Connection' feels a little forced, and 'Icecubes' has its share of kitschy lyrics ("ice cubes are H-2-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh").
'Lake Air' is a diverse album, with music that has a feel of controlled experimentation. Fans of the band should be pleased; it's not too dissimilar to the Dappled Cities you know and love. Others will enjoy the album, with some undoubted diamonds in the rough to look forward to.
